FAL[client, ARC5]: Error 12154 connecting to sangamdp for fetching gap sequence

25 rows selected.

Solution:

sangamdp is the standby database here. As per above message, primary is failing to connect to standby database.so possible reason, tns entry is missing in the primary nodes. so copy standby connection string on all nodes if it's RAC.

Standby TNS entry:
sangamdp =(DESCRIPTION =(ADDRESS_LIST =(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL= TCP)(HOST=scan-sangam-db.com)(PORT = 1521)))(CONNECT_DATA =(SERVER = DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME = sangamdp)))

Once done, check the v$dataguard_status and v$managed_standby views.

Oracle ASM is not up post kernel upgrade.

Recently we upgraded RHEL kernel from 3.10.0-514.16.1.el7.x86_64  to 3.10.0-693.17.1.el7.x86_64.  After kernel upgrade, ASM didn't come up.

Tried to mount the /dev/oracleasm/disks and got the below error.

[root@ip-test.sangam.com ~]# oracleasm init

Unable to load module "oracleasm"
[root@ip-test.sangam.com ~]#

I could see below error on /var/log/messages and /dev/oracleasm/disks file system was not accessible.

However for 3.10.0-693.17.1.el7.x86_64, we need to have latest oracleasm kernel module kmod-oracleasm-2.0.8-19.el7.x86_64.

Solution: Install the kmod-oracleasm-2.0.8-19.el7.x86_64 and restart oracleasm module.

Resolving Dependencies
There are unfinished transactions remaining. You might consider running yum-complete-transaction, or "yum-complete-transaction --cleanup-only" and "yum history redo last", first to finish them. If those don't work you'll have to try removing/installing packages by hand (maybe package-cleanup can help).

Cluster verification Utility fails with PRVG-10091 while running prerequisite for Oracle RAC upgrade from 12.1.0.2 to 12.2.0.1

Cluster verification Utility fails with below error while running prerequisite for Oracle RAC upgrade from 12.1.0.2 to 12.2.0.1

Verifying OLR Integrity ...PASSED
Verifying Verify that the ASM instance was configured using an existing ASM parameter file. ...FAILED (PRVG-10091)
Verifying User Equivalence ...PASSED
Verifying /dev/shm mounted as temporary file system ...PASSED

Reason:

Oracle RAC upgrade from 12.1.0.2 to 12.2.0.1 requires ASM file to be present in ASM disk group else you will get error as above.

Solution:

Follow the below steps to resolve the same

1.Change the OCR ASM diskgroup compatibility to 12.1 else you will get error as below

[grid@test ~]$ orapwd asm=y file='+DATA' password=******

OPW-00010: Could not create the password file.
ORA-15056: additional error message
ORA-15221: ASM operation requires compatible.asm of 12.1.0.0.0 or higher
ORA-06512: at line 4
Or
ASMCMD> pwcreate --asm +DATA/testll21/orapwASM ********
OPW-00010: Could not create the password file.
ORA-15056: additional error message
ORA-15221: ASM operation requires compatible.asm of 12.1.0.0.0 or higher
ORA-06512: at line 4
ASMCMD-9454: could not create new password file
ASMCMD> exit

SQL> select group_number, name,compatibility, database_compatibility from v$asm_diskgroup;

GROUP_NUMBER NAME                           COMPATIBILITY   DATABASE_COMPATIBILITY
------------ ------------------------------ --------------- ------------------------------
           1 DATA                           11.2.0.4.0      10.1.0.0.0

SQL> alter diskgroup DATA SET ATTRIBUTE 'compatible.asm' = '12.1';

Diskgroup altered.

GROUP_NUMBER NAME                           COMPATIBILITY   DATABASE_COMPATIBILITY
------------ ------------------------------ --------------- ------------------------------
           1 DATA                           12.1.0.0.0      10.1.0.0.0

2. Create ASM password file as below with grid user.

[grid@test ~]$ orapwd asm=y file='+DATA' password=******
Where password is ASM sys and asmsnmp user password

3. Verify the password location

[grid@test ~]$ srvctl config asm -a
ASM home:
Password file: +DATA/ASM/PASSWORD/pwdasm.276.949060973
ASM listener: LISTENER
ASM is enabled.
ASM is individually enabled on nodes:
ASM is individually disabled on nodes:
[grid@test~]$

Now rerun the cluster verification utility and check.

java.sql.SQLSyntaxErrorException: ORA-01792: maximum number of columns in a table or view is 1000

Reason:

The problem is due to Unpublished bugs:

Bug 19653859 - CI BACKPORT OF BUG 19509982 FOR INCLUSION IN DATABASE BP 12.1.0.2.2
Bug 19509982 - DISABLE FIX FOR RAISING ORA-1792 BY DEFAULT

Solution:

The workaround is to set "_fix_control"='17376322:OFF'

SQL> alter session set "_fix_control"='17376322:OFF' sid='*';

or at system level :

SQL> alter system set "_fix_control"='17376322:OFF' sid='*';

or
apply the Patch 19509982 if available for your platform and db version.

Using RMAN Incremental Backups to Refresh a Standby Database

RMAN enables you to synchronize a standby database with a primary database by creating an incremental backup at the source database that contains all changed blocks since the duplicate was created or last refreshed. You then apply the incremental backup to the standby database, which updates it with all changes.

RMAN uses the selected SCN as the basis for this incremental backup. For all files being backed up, RMAN includes all data blocks that were changed at SCNs greater than or equal to the FROM SCN in the incremental backup.

This example shows the steps required to update a standby database using incremental backups.

1. Create the Incremental Backup

Create the needed incremental backup at the source database(Primary), using BACKUP with the INCREMENTAL FROM SCN clause.

Check the current_scn of standby database to get the SCN.

SQL> select current_scn from v$database;

CURRENT_SCN

2.Make the Incremental Backup Accessible at the Standby Database

Make the backup pieces containing the incremental backup available in some directory accessible on the system containing the standby database.

3.Catalog the Incremental Backup Files at the Standby Database

Use the RMAN CATALOG command to register the backup sets in the RMAN repository at the standby. With an RMAN client connected to the standby database and the recovery catalog (if you are using catalog db), mount the standby and run the following command:

RMAN> CATALOG START WITH '/oracle/backup/RMAN/';

RMAN> catalog start with '/oracle/backup/RMAN/';

using target database control file instead of recovery catalog
searching for all files that match the pattern /oracle/backup/RMAN/

List of Files Unknown to the Database
=====================================
File Name: /oracle/backup/RMAN/TEST13_INCREMENTAL_2eqbg01h_1_1

Do you really want to catalog the above files (enter YES or NO)? yes
cataloging files...

4.Apply the Incremental Backup to the Standby Database

Use the RMAN RECOVER command with the NOREDO option to apply the incremental backup to the standby database. All changed blocks captured in the incremental backup are updated at the standby database, bringing it up to date with the primary database. With an RMAN client connected to the standby database, run the following command:

RMAN> RECOVER DATABASE NOREDO;

-bash-4.1$ rman target /

Recovery Manager: Release 10.2.0.4.0 - Production on Wed Jul 8 01:46:40 2015

Copyright (c) 1982, 2007, Oracle.  All rights reserved.

connected to target database: TEST13 (DBID=2603591950, not open)

RMAN> RECOVER DATABASE NOREDO;

Starting recover at 08-JUL-15
Starting implicit crosscheck backup at 08-JUL-15
using target database control file instead of recovery catalog
allocated channel: ORA_DISK_1
channel ORA_DISK_1: sid=153 devtype=DISK
.....
.....
..
...

You can now resume managed recovery at the standby. Any redo logs required at the standby with changes since those contained in the incremental are automatically requested from the primary and applied.

Error starting managed server from Console :Unable to create a server socket for listening on channel "Default"

While starting the managed server from the Admin console, after nodemanager configuration, managed server was failing with status as "FAILED_to_START"

Unable to create a server socket for listening on channel "Default". The address 151.49.38.9 might be incorrect or another process is using port 18101: java.net.BindException: Cannot assign requested address.

Solution:Setup was two node cluster. I configured nodemanager and started it. but in console node manager configuration for managed server opam_server2 was showing localhost and hence it was trying to start from first node(where domain was configured) and it was failing. So update localhost with node2 hostname as below.

In Weblogic console, go to Environment -> Machines -> Configuration -> Node  Manager.

Update opam_server2 manager server with remote server host name(test2.opam.com).

What mistake I had done is, I had missed post steps which does relinking of oracle binaries. I relinked the binaries on both the nodes with "oracle" user as below.

Note: If you are using rds protocol, command will be make -C $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib -f ins_rdbms.mk ipc_rds ioracle . Check the below link on how to check protocol being used.
http://jongsma.wordpress.com/2012/08/08/mixing-udp-and-rds-on-an-exadata/

Solution:

1.Identify the process which is accessing /u01/app/oracle/product/11203/testms/lib/libclntsh.so.11.1 executable.

[oracle@test4201 bp17]$ /sbin/fuser -v /u01/app/oracle/product/11203/testms/lib/libclntsh.so.11.1

                     USER        PID ACCESS COMMAND
/u01/app/oracle/product/11203/testms/lib/libclntsh.so.11.1:
                     oracle    23612 ....m emagent

[oracle@test4201 bp17]$ ps -ef|grep 23612
oracle   22753 21386  0 22:31 pts/6    00:00:00 grep --color=auto 23612
oracle   23612 12053  0 10:13 pts/11   00:00:39 /u01/app/oracle/product/11203/testms/bin/emagent

In my case, it's found that EM agent was running so I killed that process as it was test environment. In production environment, check the status and stop the EM agent.

[oracle@test4201 bin]$ kill -9 23612
[oracle@test4201 bin]$ /sbin/fuser -v /u01/app/oracle/product/11203/testms/lib/libclntsh.so.11.1
[oracle@test4201 bin]$ pwd

2. Now try to apply the patch.
